Prior to our trip, our advisor Nicole would begin every ASB meeting with our rose and thorn of the week (the high and low points). I found this quick activity extremely helpful, as I sometimes get wrapped up in my schedule where I tend to forget to stop and think. In looking back at today, my rose would have been spending time at Little Sisters of the Poor. It was here where I promised myself to step out of my comfort zone so I could truly let loose and give all that I could to the elderly residents. After nearly two hours of leading everyone in Karaoke, I can say that I have successfully pushed myself out of my comfort zone. I had such a great time with all the residents, as well as the rest of the ASB crew!
The thorn of my day occurred during my time spent with the third graders of St. Anthony's School. After only two short days, one of my buddies, Eliana, asked how long I would be staying to help out around her school. I told her that tomorrow was actually my last day and at that moment I saw how disappointed she was. It was so hard to see her reaction and how much she wanted myself and the rest of our crew to stay. Although this was my thorn of the day, this was also the moment that showed me the true impact of our service.
