Day 2
Today I have learned a lot about myself and the impact that we can have on others lives. We started off the day at Food with Friends and I was apart of the delivery team. This was a different experience and we all had mixed feelings going into it. Our task was to bring the food to the homes of each individual receiving the meals that were previously prepared. At the first stop, I was timid and did not leave the van. However, I gained the courage to step out of my comfort zone to hand deliver the meals. I was able to see how grateful the people were and the actual impact out small gestures has on these people's lives. I'm so glad I was able to go out of my normal comfort zone to see the impact in person. It was truly a heartwarming experience.
At the little sisters of the poor, I was able to see how important interaction with the residents is. Even though we may not have been doing much, it was enough to know that it meant alot to them that we were there. I was able to interact with a resident who was happy at the fact that her family was visiting her for her birthday. This really touched me because it's what she looks forward to the most in her life and it really made me feel bad.
At st. Anthony's school, I was able to help two little girls with their homework today and got the chance to play outside with them. I realized how important this was because these kids may not have much to look forward to, coming from different backgrounds, and just being able to interact and play with them has a positive impact on their lives. I was able to relive my childhood and share my experiences with games with my girls and we were all able to connect and make the most out of our time together. I also realized the importance of moving out of my comfort zone to have this positive impact on the girls.
I am looking forward to what tomorrow has in store for us being our last day as volunteers at Food with friends, the little sisters of the poor and St. Anthony's Catholic School.
